GSO

Our Middle School

From the transition after primary school to graduation – we accompany children in our middle school on their journey from grade 5 to 10. For six years, we support students on their often challenging path from childhood toward adulthood. Puberty, as a phase of upheaval with its major physical changes and the search for self-identity, represents a particular challenge that we support empathetically and individually as a school.

Seven exciting profiles

Right from the start, children have the opportunity to set priorities according to their interests, abilities, and inclinations. They can choose between seven different profiles: Explorers, Researchers, Art, Strings, Brass, Theater, and Movement Health. There is something for everyone! This promotes individual strengths and motivation. Two additional weekly hours allow for in-depth engagement with topics and projects within the profile subject.
Relationships are the top priority: children are accompanied by the smallest possible class team, the core of which consists of class management, school social work, and special education.

Content knowledge, as well as methodological and social competencies, play an important role in middle school: learning structures, self-organization, and cooperating with others – these are also priorities we set so that by the end of grade 10, everyone can obtain a school-leaving certificate and be ready to successfully pursue their future path in life.

Individually differentiated

At GSO, we differentiate from the very beginning. This means that children are taught within their class community at different levels corresponding to their abilities. Our multi-professional teams make this differentiation possible, so that young people are taught together until grade 10 while being prepared for different qualifications – from the basic and extended vocational training maturity to the intermediate school-leaving certificate and eligibility for the senior gymnasium level.

Preparation for the working world

Early career orientation is also very important to us; it supports students on their path starting from grade 8 with the help of potential analyses, application training, craft days, and much more. In grades 9 and 10, they complete several weeks of internships in companies they have selected themselves. There, they can get a taste of the working world and get to know new professions.

Learning and living together

To strengthen the class community and for very special experiences outside of school, we visit exciting places, events, and projects, and head out as often as possible – into the neighborhood, into the city, and off on class trips!
Our school is both a learning space and a living space. Therefore, we place great value on the design of the classrooms and the entire school. Everyone should be able to feel comfortable in a good and healthy learning atmosphere. After all, we all spend a lot of time together every day at GSO.
