The Student Council

The Student Council (SV) is a fundamental part of co-determination at the GSO. At the same time, it is an instrument for democratic education, as democratic structures and processes are practiced within the SV. Students learn to formulate, justify, and assert their interests and needs, but also to make compromises and respect the interests of other people involved in the school. Members of the SV experience self-efficacy by advocating for the student body, participating in conferences, and actively co-determining in the School Conference. The SV of the GSO is divided into different sub-areas:

All profile representatives are represented in the SV of the senior secondary level (Gymnasiale Oberstufe). Concerns of the senior level are discussed at regular meetings. For example, a major interest of senior students is to have study and retreat areas for free periods and breaks.

The Student Advisory Board for the middle school consists of all class representatives of the middle school. It meets once or twice a semester to elect, for example, student body presidents, year group representatives, or representatives for the School Conference. In addition, the Student Advisory Board determines the topics that the active SV of the middle school should address.

Students who wish to be more strongly involved in the interests of GSO students participate in the active SV. Since the beginning of the 2025/2026 school year, students who are not class representatives can also become members of the active SV. For this purpose, a selection process was carried out by the students already participating in the active SV. The active SV determines which topics from the Student Advisory Board it wants to address and in what order. It holds discussions with the school management, develops motions, and introduces them to the school committees. The goal is to introduce and assert the interests of middle school students within the school. One important project of the active SV, for example, is the improvement of the toilet situation at the school.
