“Reading with Bite” is the name of our first official, funded reading literacy program, which we have been implementing in grades 5 and 6 for five years. To support this, we have integrated three fixed reading sessions of 20 minutes each per week into the curriculum for these year groups. Students are supported in their reading proficiency using various reading methods. Through a digital learning progress diagnosis, our students can monitor their own reading progress.
Starting from the 2026/2027 school year, the “Reading with Bite” program will be transitioned into the “Bremen Reading Band.” The methods are similar, but reading sessions will take place daily. Teachers receive specialized training to develop reading literacy. By now, students are already familiar with the Bremen Reading Band from their primary schools.
