Our Preparatory Classes
Preparatory Class
For children who are new to Germany and have outgrown primary school age, the GSO offers the opportunity to attend one of our preparatory classes. Depending on their age, there are two different options: younger students spend one year in a preparatory class with a maximum of 15 students to learn German, with the goal of being gradually integrated into a regular class over time. Language acquisition is the top priority here to ensure they can successfully transition into a regular classroom setting. To facilitate their arrival in Germany, cultural topics and traditions are also taught. Initially, the children have 20 hours of
German per week as well as two hours of social learning. Depending on their progress, each child starts attending a few hours in a regular class after some time. these hours are gradually increased over the course of the year until the transition to the regular class is completed after one year.
Qualification-Oriented Preparatory Class
For older adolescents who are new to Germany or have only lived in Germany for a short period, we offer a special preparatory class. They attend a specialized class together for two years, which prepares them to obtain the Extended Vocational Training Certificate (Erweiterte Berufsbildungsreife): ten hours of intensive German lessons per week are supplemented by all other regular school subjects, such as Mathematics, English, Science, and Physical Education. This is a major challenge for both students and teachers, as content must be taught and understood in a language that is initially still
largely foreign to the students. This requires empathy, creativity, and a deep understanding of linguistic hurdles on the part of the teaching staff. Initially, translation programs also help students grasp the learning material.
At the end of the two years, the young people take part in the regular final examinations for the 10th grade and have the opportunity to obtain either the Basic or the Extended Vocational Training Certificate.
