Our Middle School Profiles

In each of the seven profiles, students receive two additional hours, exclusively dedicated to deepening content and engaging projects.

Discovery

Do you enjoy going on a journey of discovery? Then this profile is your first choice. We explore topics and issues that affect our small and large world and want to find out how we can lead a happy life. This includes topics such as politics, elections, and democracy: Which topics are particularly important right now? What is democracy? How do elections work? What do politicians actually do? But we also discover ourselves as a class: negotiating, deciding, compromising, taking responsibility. We practice this so that everyone can feel comfortable.

Research

Curious researchers wanted! What is it? What happens there and how does it work? Why does it work at all? – We pursue such questions, whether it’s about nature, the human body, or things like a bicycle, a rocket, or a supercomputer. We follow in the footsteps of the researchers who have brought us important knowledge and exciting inventions. We conduct experiments together, evaluate them, and present them. For the research profile, you primarily need one thing: a thirst for knowledge!

Art

If you are interested in creative work, then the art profile is for you. Whether it’s sketching, drawing, digital image editing, or creating sculptures – all students here are creative and get to design art. We also work interdisciplinarily, together with subjects such as social studies and politics, German, or natural sciences. We participate in projects, competitions, and exhibitions and regularly showcase the profile’s work in small exhibitions at our school. Additionally, we visit museums and galleries, advertising agencies, and theater workshops to broaden our artistic horizons.

Music: Wind Instruments

Learn a wind instrument, make music with others, and even give concerts? This is possible for everyone in this profile through several hours of music lessons and additional, fee-based instrumental lessons (Bremen Pass can be used) from the Bremen Music School! Each student receives their own loan instrument, for which they are responsible. You can choose between flute, clarinet, saxophone, alto saxophone, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, electric bass, and drums. And then it’s time to practice together.

Music: String Instruments

In the string class, you have the chance to learn a string instrument, play together with others, and give concerts. Several hours of music lessons, combined with additional, fee-based instrumental lessons, continuously build the skills of all students. Available loan instruments include: violin, viola, cello, and double bass. We play together in the string orchestra, attend rehearsals of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, and participate in the school’s various music projects. We are supported by the patrons of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie – this is unique to GSO!

Theater

Curtain up! In this profile, we play with language, movement, our own bodies, thoughts, and roles. If you enjoy being on stage and also going to the theater, this is the right place for you. We read texts, books, comics, watch films, and listen to music together, contribute ideas, and learn a lot about language. We work on interdisciplinary projects in subjects such as German, English, performing arts, music, and art.

Movement and Health

Move! Do you enjoy movement and sports? Do you want to participate in sports competitions? Are you a member of a sports club or would you like to become one? Do you want to know how to eat healthily, what sports and health have to do with each other, and how the human body works? Then this active profile is perfect for you. We work together on your knowledge and your athletic abilities!
