Sometimes it is “Big”, sometimes more “Band”.
This extracurricular group has existed for many years with different focuses. We always look at what is possible and what is desired. Our ensembles have already performed in Berlin, for the Federal President, at City Hall, on Buten un Binnen, and have won prizes at “Jugend musiziert”. It depends on you!
Former GSO students and skilled musicians from the lower secondary level complement the working phases of our Big Band club. Together, we play as an orchestra or support our wind classes at special performances.
The Year 11 band impresses with a versatile, modern sound. Every Wednesday from 1:10 PM to 2:00 PM, the rehearsal room becomes a creative stage where dedicated musicians work together on new arrangements. The line-up is varied: expressive singers are supported by a grooving rhythm section, while the brass section adds special accents with powerful riffs and soulful melodies. The result is a vibrant band sound that combines energy with musical sensitivity. The repertoire ranges from current pop songs to rousing soul classics,
through to selected jazz pieces. The band places great value on musical expression, ensemble playing, and its own interpretations. Whether at the school festival, concert evenings, or events with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie such as Club 443 or the district opera – the Year 11 band always creates a great atmosphere and shows how much talent, team spirit, and passion it has.
The Year 12 band stands for musical maturity, expressiveness, and genuine ensemble playing. Every Wednesday during the lunch break, rehearsals take place with great commitment and passion to further develop the shared sound and bring new pieces to the stage. At the moment, the focus is on a charismatic singer who convincingly interprets both soulful ballads and high-energy songs. She is accompanied by a well-rehearsed rhythm section that provides the musical foundation with grooving beats and harmonic soundscapes. Even without brass, this creates a
dense, modern band sound with plenty of dynamics and expression. The repertoire includes current pop songs as well as selected jazz and soul pieces, which the band enriches with its own ideas and creative arrangements. Whether at school concerts or events with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen – the Year 12 band impresses with musical quality, joy of playing, and a clear shared vision.
You’re The Voice! Do you enjoy singing? In the upper secondary choir, your voice matters. Whether you already have a lot of experience or usually just sing along loudly to your favourite songs, you are in the right place here. Above all, it is about the joy of singing together – experiencing how many different voices come together to create a new sound.
If you take music in upper secondary, you can choose the choir as part of your musical education at GSO. Bring in ideas for new songs, learn to sing in harmony, or try a solo as well. We sing pop songs in harmony,
write our own pieces, and perform on stage in various concert formats: at Club 443Hz, the Night of Youth at Bremen City Hall, or on the big stage at the district opera. And we offer something very special as well: most of the time, we are accompanied by the professional orchestra of the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen – pure goosebumps.
